MCNUTT CREEK RD.

(Project ID 0013764)

Georgia DOT has approved a concept report for McNutt Creek Rd.

Dec. 1, 2024

Right-In Right-Out proposed for McNutt Creek Rd. at SR316.

The GDOT concept recommends right-in right-out access instead of a bridge or interchange. The proposed design would completely eliminate cross traffic on McNutt Creek Road.

Oconee County officials believe an interchange would provide more significant safety improvement and that the proposed right-in right-out will have negative impacts on Fire Station No. 7, traffic on local roads, and on the Gateway Technology and Business Park.

The Georgia Department of Driver Services and the Georgia State Patrol, which are building new facilities on McNutt Creek Road south of SR 316, also have stated concerns that the proposed right-in right-out design will negatively impact their operations.

Original plans from GDOT proposed a flyover bridge at McNutt Creek Rd. with no access to or from SR 316. However, information shared by GDOT in July 2023 proposes a full interchange of ‘tight urban design’ at McNutt Creek Rd.

One reason for the change in GDOT plans may have been the decision by the Georgia Division of Driver Services to build a new Customer Service Center and the Georgia State Patrol to build a new office on 13 acres the county donated to the state on McNutt Creek Road south of SR 316. Oconee County leaders donated land to the state for the facilities.
